“Decara’s Teeth” (excerpt)
Decara’s mother said, “brush your teeth.”
Decara folded her arms and said, “No.”
Her mother said, “If you don’t brush your teeth, little bugs will come to live in your mouth. They will eat big holes in your teeth and then all your teeth will fall out.”
Decara shook her head and closed her mouth tight.
Decara didn’t brush her teeth for two whole days. When she smiled, little bits of green things stuck out of her mouth.
Decara’s sisters said, “brush your teeth.”
Decara folded her arms and said, “No.”
Her sisters said, “If you don’t brush your teeth, you will have to go to the dentist. It will cost Mom lots and lots of money and then we will all have to live in a tent.” They cried.
Decara shook her head and closed her mouth tight.
Decara didn’t brush her teeth for a whole week. When she smiled for picture day at school, her teeth were yellow and little bits of green things stuck out of her mouth.
Decara’s friends said, “brush your teeth.”
Decara folded her arms and said, “No.”
Her friends said, “If you don’t brush your teeth, they will all fall out and they are so dirty that the tooth fairy won’t even give you any money for them.”
Decara shook her head and closed her mouth tight.
Decara didn’t brush her teeth for a whole, entire month. Soft fuzz was growing in her mouth. Her teeth were yellow and little bits of green things stuck out of her mouth.
The teacher said, “brush your teeth.”
Decara folded her arms and said, “No.”

Congrats (& yes the dusting can wait – I recall, when I was younger, going around my home & writing ‘dust me’ on various items of furniture. Now, being older & [hopefully] wiser, can see why my mother left dusting until absolutely necessary). I would really like to see the full “Decara’s Teeth” – quite funny.

LOL. I should try writing ‘dust me’ on the furniture. Maybe the kids will take the hint.
